Vintage Case XX Combination Knife and Hatchet Axe Set Wood Handle Leather Sheath
Another item from Country Artifacts, Great Northern Liquidation, Springfield, Vermont. This is a fine example of this famous knife and hatchet combo, patented in 1935. The blades are very sharp, yet they don't show much (if any) evidence of sharpening over the years, so I think they're at least close to original condition. They could use a polishing though. The handle is fully functional and has one notch cut in its edge as shown. I think the wood is walnut. It could also use a good polishing and cleaning.
The sheath is in excellent condition with normal signs of age and previous use. It bears the mark of Bob Webster of Chester Vermont as shown. Bob was a nationally well known and decorated quarter horse trainer and shower with his heyday in the 1960s before becoming a judge in the 1970s. Bob lived in Chester from 1950 to the early 1980s.
