Beautiful 2024 Kauhavan Puukkopaja Puukko made in Kauhava, Finland by Matti Kosti. This Tommi-style knife has leather stacked, waxed handles with brass plates and a full hidden tang, riveted against a brass butt cap. The fixtures are all brass. The blade is 80crv2 carbon steel made by Lauri Metalli around 59-60 HRC. The grind on this knife is a full scandi with a barely visible microbevel.
Matti actually refines the Lauri Metalli blades by adding a subtle hollow grind to the bevel. You can see the hollow grind marks on the blade in the picture.
The beauty of this is that when you sharpen a Matti Kosti knife on a stone, only the blade edge and shoulder of the bevel actually touch the stone. It makes it screaming sharp and requires less steel removal. It outpeforms 1095 and 01 Tool steel in edge retention-from my experience. The top of the blade has the blackened scale from forging with the brand Kauhavan Puukkopaja inscribed free-hand on the pile side. It probably has the most comfortable grip of any knife I've held.
The sheath is made of a veg tan cattle leather, wet-formed to the knife for a perfect fit. It has a dangler style, and is a very high quality artisan sheath. Very nice Pukko a little nicer than Ahti, and perhaps even Iisakki Jarvenpaa.
