The left fuller bears the name of Hannes Kolehmainen, who was a Finnish four-time Olympic Gold medalist and a world record holder in the middle- and long-distance running. He was the first in a generation of great Finnish long-distance runners, often named the "Flying Finns". The handle of the knife is of yellow/brown varnished Karelian birch bearing the inscription Helsinki, Suomi, 1952. The simple brass bolster is typical for the Marttiini brand. The sheath is of brown ox leather shaped in the traditional form of a salmon tail.
The sheath is in excellent condition. The belt loop is intact. Overall, this knife represents an excellent and extremely rare example of XV Olympic games memorabilia.
