Featuring an exhibition-grade Amboyna Burl handle, intricate mosaic pins, a fitted nickel silver guard, and its original Sullivan's Leather Shop sheath, this is one of the most significant early BRKT collector pieces you will encounter. Historic Details & Custom Specifications.
Location mark rather than the later Escanaba stamp. Factory Prototype Marking: Crisp factory "Prototype" etch on the obverse blade grind, confirming its status as an original development piece for the Mountaineer pattern. Exhibition Amboyna Burl: Rich, deep chatoyant burl with intense swirling flame figure, micro-eyes, and natural contrast. Artisan Mosaic Pins & Nickel Silver Guard: Secured by dual hand-assembled brass/copper mosaic pins and fitted with a contoured nickel silver guard. Classic Drop-Point Geometry: 3-9/16 blade with a sweeping belly and full-convex edge, designed for all-around field dress, caping, and classic camp craft.Original Sullivan Leather Sheath: Includes the period-correct, heavy brown leather sheath built by Sullivan's Leather Shop with firm retention and sound stitching. Blade & Edges: Crisp original condition with sharp convex factory edge, clean grind lines, intact point, and distinct ricasso/prototype markings. Clean satin finish with no pitting or rust. Guard & Handle: The nickel silver guard is tight and flush to the ricasso.
The Amboyna burl handles are smooth, structurally solid, and seated perfectly to the tang with zero cracks, shrinkage, or voids. Mosaic pins are seated flush. Overall finish is significantly better than expected, but there is a large spot of oxidization/patina on the butt of the spine.
Sheath: The vintage Sullivan sheath is in very good to excellent condition, supple with sound stitching and clean leather surfaces. An exceptional centerpiece for advanced Bark River collectors seeking rare prototypes, early Barn-stamped historic blades, or heirloom-grade custom shop builds.
