ARGENTINE DON QUIJOTE BRAND SURVIVAL BOWIE SAWBACK KNIFE FLARE LAUNCHER CIRCA'80S. Very rare and sturdy sawback survival bowie knife in mint condition, made in the 1980s with an unusual and innovative aluminum sheath and a removable black poyamide frog. The DON QUIJOTE ARTESANAL brand was a workshop from the 1960s to the 1980s dedicated mainly to classic Argentine gaucho knives (straight back or meat carving knives, with straight main edge and no false edge) with silver/gold or German-silver/bronze handles and sheaths, but to have found this innovative model of survival knife is simply amazing. Polished full tang carbon steel bowie blade with false edge, factory sharpened, five double-teeth serrated spine. It still has the old factory grease. The maker's name, "DON QUIJOTE ARTESANAL" are stamped on the left ricazzo. The aluminum handguard has two bevels that allow it to fit snugly into the scabbard throat, it is secured to the blade with an aluminum rivet, as are the hardwood grips (two rivets) and the T pommel (1 rivet). The pommel has a threaded hole on its lower face and a firing pin that can be used through an internal spring and a ring (which can also be used as a lanyard hole) on the upper face, where a Brewer-Marto Explora type flare can be threaded. A similar device can be seen on the tip of the scabbard. The frog is complete and easily removable from the scabbard. It is made of 100% black high density polyamide combat belt type. It has a pocket on the front (probably to store flares), a handle strap and a strap that regulates the belt loop, all of which close with snaps fasteners. The loop is attached to the front of the frog with two sturdy steel rivets. The scabbard is rectangular 100% aluminum, a long black nylon rope wraps around it, two steel screws secure the tip cap, as mentioned above, it has a Brewer-Marto Explora type flare launcher device, its ring can be used to pass a rope to tie the scabbard to the leg.
