The overall length is 8.75. The blade is 4.00 in length. It appears Irvin got his stamp a little too close to the edge as much of his IRBI logo was buffed off. I have a good shot of this. The blade has a bright mirror finish, sharp edge and does have some minor surface scratches.
However, it appears it has never been used. The brass guard and butt plate are bright and solid.
The blade has been coated in Renaissance Wax since Ive owned it and was removed for the pictures. Probably bone or antler which has a spectrum of deep brown coloring. The sheath was made by Irvins daughter-in-law, Dawn Campbell and fits the knife perfectly. The number 17 is stamped on the back next to the belt loop. Im not sure if she uses this stamp anymore.
The knife feels good in either hand. The pictures are the best part of the description so take a close look and feel free to ask any questions. This knife was made by Irvin Campbell. His wife Clara made thousands of sheaths for his knives until she passed away in 1990, when his daughter-in-law, Dawn, took over that craft.
Irvin marked his knives I. "I'd Rather Be Independent". The tradition continues to this day with his son Virgil and grandson Hunter now making knives and Dawn still making sheaths. The item "ALASKA CUSTOM HAND MADE IRVIN CAMPBELL IRBI HUNTING FIGHTING KNIFE" is in sale since Monday, August 6, 2018.
