RARE 1931-'52 PAT'D WESTERN Boulder USA P28 HUNTING KNIFE Vtg RED HANDLE w/ Case. This vintage fixed blade is in exceptionally good condition for its age.
Also, includes the "oak leaf" tooled Western leather sheath. This rare knife & case would be great for the collector or useful hunting small game, like bird and trout.
The Western blade stamping indicates that this USA knife is quite old. These red handle knives are long out of production, and it was most likely manufactured between 1931 to 1952. The book "Knife makers that went West" identifies this knife as a P28 red Tenite handle. I believe that Tenite was the Western's brand name for this type of handle composite material. For comparison: some knife manufacturing company's brand names (for a composite handle) included Bakelite, Phenolic, Celluloid, Delrin, Staglon, Micarta, ect.
Collected, making this good condition even more rare and difficult to find. T he blade length is. W E S T E R N. PAT'D MADE IN U. This factory made WESTERN hunting knife has a smooth, two-piece.
I believe the handle scales are made from a composite material. There are secure spacers, and the handle has No chips or cracks. Also, the antique handle scales fit the split tang tightly, with no gaps. The curved aluminum "birds head style pommel" and brass finger-guard have a few age specks, which is normal for the age.
Overall, this Western knife is still a beauty, and offers a solid grip when held in your hand. (Please view photos for complete details). The mirror-like blade shows signs of sharpening and some surface scratches. Knife blade appears straight with a pointed tip. This small game hunting/skinning knife has a sabre ground blade with a false top edge, that could be sharpened if desired. The vintage hunting knife features split tang construction , with a 7/8 long b rass finger guard that is tight with No movement. (Please view photos for details). A vintage leather sheath is included, and has Western "oak leaf" tooling on the front. The sheath has intact stitching, 3 secure metal rivets, stiff throat, and a belt loop. This leather case has a secure working snap strap, and overall measures: 7 1/2 long. The old sheath is in very good used condition, but shows some wear and usage, and it fits the knife well.
This old hunting knife has. A lot of character and vintage appeal.... With that original Patina of time appearance not yet achieved with newer knives.
