FINE EARLY GERMAN OR FRENCH HUNTING SWORD-SIDE KNIFE, c. 1780-1820'S
FINE EARLY GERMAN OR FRENCH HUNTING SWORD OR SIDE KNIFE, c. 23" SWORD, 17 3/4" hollow ground blade, about 1 1/8" deep at the guard, made of 3/8" thick stock, with interesting stamp on the blade, with three star like objects, with squiggly marks underneath. The blade is quite attractive, with no significant pitting or dings or dents. Fine "cut steel" full guard, with lots of file work, with multigrooved ferrule and mushroom shaped steel pommel. Beautiful round chocolate brown Sambar stag handle, with no cracks or chips. This fine piece has superior balance and is substantial, without being heavy and cumbersome. We rate the condition of our knives on the following scale. In addition, it sells itself in a powerful way. Knife is the same as it was when it was produced. May have a minor crack in a handle, or a freckle on the blade, but absolutely no evidence of use or sharpening. Any deviation from mint is minor.

If the knife has been expertly cleaned, it must appear as mint, full blades, no evidence of sharpening or use. Knife is in excellent condition. Handles are in fine shape.

Blades show only slight wear, or discoloration. Unless otherwise stated blades and handles are original. Knife is in very good condition.

Blades may show up to 10% wear. Blades are original (unless otherwise stated), but may not snap. Handles are original (unless otherwise stated) but may show damage. Blades or back springs may be pitted.

PLUS OR MINUS (+ OR -). This may be used to describe a knife that may fall between the above categories.
