I bought this knife yesterday at an Estate sale here in New Hampshire. I tried researching the knife on the web, but did not have much luck in identifying it, or the stamping on this knife. Then I found an ad for a Sportsman's Ideal Hunting Knife, and that is what I believe I have. The ad is not dated, and incomplete, but I think it is circa 1898.

Overall, the knife measures approximately 10 9/16" long with about a 5 3/4" blade. The knife weighs about 7.1 ounces.

The pommel is stag, is threaded, and screws right on. The grip is stacked leather in 2 color. There are 3 layers at the pommel, and 2 on the tang side that are slightly lighter brown in color. The stamping is on three lines, which looks correct for the advertisement I show. It is weak in places, but looks like it would have read W. Please note that I can not see any of the "W", but the period is still there. It is also void of the "I" and part of the "H" in MICH.

Also different from other knives I did find is that the Mfg. By is absent, and the writing reads from the tang towards the tip. I would consider the knife to be in very good condition.

The blade has typical wear, light rust and pitting. I have made no attempt at cleaning the knife or blade at all. About the only flaw I can find is that the stag pommel goes slightly past the leather grip when screwed down tightly. I feel this is a very scarce old Marbles knife, in desirable condition. The photos are an integral part of my description.
