Well,,, we both got retired and moved to our place in New Mexico and now we are getting around to going though stuff that has been stored in the barn for up to 15 years. There is a lot more stuff than we need or have room for so we are going to offer it all at no reserve.
Since I have a small collection of Confederate Bowies and D-Guards that include a couple of McElroy's cast brass grip "Lariat" knives, I was surprised to find this knife marked "W J McElroy-Macon" I did a little research and found the McElroy factory survived the Civil War and was in business until 1888. Prior to finding this knife, EVERY knife I have observed with a McElroy stamp was an obvious fake.
The 6 7/8" blade is marked "W J McElroy" arched over "Macon GA. The knife is 11 1/4 overall. The blade shows period use and sharpening but is nearly full. Thanks for stoppin' in and takin' a look.
