Was the knife designed by Al Mar that was a springboard to his starting his own company. The late and former Green Beret Mar became a knife designer for Gerber after leaving the service. The C425 has become a highly desired collectible and you seldom see them for sale. This one is very well made like most Gerber products; fit and finish is excellent. The blade is made of mirror-polished high speed tool steel and is in near mint condition -- never used or sharpened with just a couple sheathing marks visible. The second and third-to-last pix above show to spots on the top of the guard that remained after verdigris was removed where knife was in contact with the sheath for too long a time. The handle is made of nicely grained ebony wood, dating this knife back to the mid-70s. The sheath is a smooth and luxurious dark brow which fits this knife like a glove and is stamped C425 on the back with Pat. Pending as the final line (see pic).
